It's a good thing to do!
Published on August 26, 2008 By Mirsguy In Fences Beta
I just downloaded the first beta version of Fences, and do I ever like it! I am not one who usually keeps icons on the desktop (due to ObjectDock), however I do occasionally put things on my desktop temporarily. For those temporary icons I put there, fences is a wonderful invention! Thanks Jeff!

The only glitch I have found so far is that I am not able to right-click and drag out a new Fence while the RightClick program is running. When I right-click to drag out a new fence, my RightClick menu pops up. I had to unload RightClick, and then Fences worked like a charm.

It would be nice if the two could harmonize. Either way, I see this application becoming one of the greats from Stardock!

'Been using beta 2 now for several days, and so far, no bugs or complications!

AVMan - So I've figured out that problem. You have some sort of web-content enabled on your desktop, microsoft's old "active desktop" (discontinued fater XP). Fences is not currently 'compatible' with active desktop. (In fact, I should look into detecting & notifying the user / auto-disabling fences if detected & offering to disable active desktop if I can)

Thanks for pointing out

rightclick on desktop | Desktop | Customize Desktop (button) | Web (Tab) | Select and delete (or uncheck)

that's odd. i'll have to see if there's some way i can disable it programmatically. regardless, *somebody* is setting a wierd setting to your desktop, and I know exactly what that setting is / active-desktop is the only thing i know of that sets it

Ok I can't explain it but I did not have any web content enabled but after going to that section and loking at it I enable it then disabled it againto try force a change so the apply button would become active .

Then installed fences through impulse ,Reboot was required and BAM(as Emerald would say) there we go all is working fine and beautiful!

I guess it just needed to be told again you sometimes these things are like kids and don't always listen when they are told !

I  haven't seen my icons in a year as many screen shots as I do they are always in the way! So thank you for the opportunity to test such a cool slick program!

Thank you for your help!

BTW I am now dual booting XP and Vista and they look awsome on both !
