His 'n Hers Blinds
Published on June 24, 2009 By Mirsguy In Sneak Previews

I recently began work on a new WindowBlind I am calling 'Miricla.' This is a skin that I am making specifically for my wife, Brysgirl. She has not been able to find that 'perfect skin' yet, so I am creating it for her.

It is primarily blue in color and quite glassy. I chose the blue color because I just couldn't bring myself to work with pink. This skin is a recolorers dream, and looks good however you set the color slider in the config settings.

When I complete Miricla, I will begin work on 'Tinted,' which will be essentially identical in most ways to Miricla, just with dark glass rather than blue. Also, the Tinted WB will be made to match the ObjectDock backgrounds I have already created of the same name.

Yeah, she wanted something pink. I refused to work in pink. I just couldn't do it. Sooooo... the alternative was to build something that recolors well.

blend modes are SO important.

Now John...stop giving all the best tricks away.

JK...he and I have been telling people for a long time...get away from default PS bevels...it makes a huge difference.

That start menu looks tons better now.

Yeah, that was a good tip. I primarily design for print, and for what I do there, blend mode variations are second nature to me. I guess I need to transfer that to gui design, too.

That start menu looks tons better now.

Thanks! I guess you can call this whole skin a gift to my wife, and so I'd want to give her the best possible. Thanks for the help & guidance v & ir!

Now that I've got most of the "easy" stuff done, it's on to the more tedious work. Not the mention the minor differences that'll need to be made for it to work across the 3 OS's.

I'd say probably a couple of weeks. Depends on how much free time I get.

Couple of weeks   ? I should better start counting the days

If your using layers on the window frames...check your blend mode...you have a halo effect...especially at the sides and corners.

depends on the color content that they sit on ,but the correct blend can minimize the halo.

All else is looking great.

Would you mind showing me? I'm not sure I know what you mean...

on Jul 04, 2009

left side of your window and each corner has lite pixels showing...usually caused by a layer blending incorrectly with the drop shadow and some of the pixels in antialiased corners.

dosnt show up so much til its over something dark

layer automask has some difficulty with the transition between actual frame and shadow...depending on the blend mode and color content of the graphics involved.

Ah, ok. think I see it now. I'll look into it. Thanks!
